WENDY Milbank Catering, based in Newmarket, have no set menus, no set prices, no set expectations.

So, if you are looking for completely bespoke wedding catering, consisting of your favourite foods cooked with panache and served elegantly by uniformed staff, you know who to turn to.

Wendy started her company more than 20 years ago in 1987, saying: “ I enjoyed parties and loved weddings.”

With daughter-in-law Pauline (a trained chef who has worked in some top Michelin starred restaurants in France) at the helm in the kitchen, Wendy Milbank Catering covers Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and London – and has even undertaken wedding receptions in France, with most business coming via word of mouth.

A lot of effort is put into every aspect of the food, its styling and presentation, with Wendy working with various suppliers and florists to ensure the end result is spectacular – whether you want a country garden themed buffet decorated with blossoming peonies and wild grasses, to a starkly modern canapé reception with nibbles served on slate or perspex.

On meeting Wendy, you’ll simply discuss your ideas, your food likes and dislikes and your theme, before brainstorming. As Wendy puts it: “We don’t do packages, we only tailor make.” So anything and everything is possible.

If you need inspiration Wendy and Pauline can advise menus and talk about current wedding trends (which for 2010 signify the end of the cupcake and the rise in popularity of pastel-shaded macaroons).

Everything at a Wendy Milbank catered reception is home-made from scratch, be it an intimate dinner party-style affair, or a grandiose sit-down buffet of sushi, lobster and oysters for 1,000.

Plus, the final price includes hire of glassware, crockery, linen and service.

Wendy said: “We can get Venetian coloured glass and any shape of plate. I also have somewhat of a tablecloth fetish. I like to use linen that flows down to the ground, and prefer to use beautiful colours. One of my favourites is lime green, which goes beautifully with blue flowers.

“Our selling point has to be our attention to detail and just being able to do everything really well. Also, all of my staff are beautifully uniformed and everyone always says how wonderful they are.”
